THE FOLLOWING POST IS PUBLISHED WITH PERMISSION FROM LONNIE JACKSON.
You know how guys talk right? Well older guys are no different. Originally, Lonnie (my 60ish trailer-mate, for those who don't know him) told me he had about 5 women in his life. Well...I was about to write here that he was full of hot air and that he really only has one prospect out there....until I discovered that there are many Lonnie lovers out there.
Who loves Lonnie and what is the secret to his success with the ladies?
If you've read my earlier posts then you know that Lonnie is a recovering addict. Not only has he been successful but he now helps other addicts in his program...and you guessed it...many of them are women. So a few on the list see Lonnie as a savior and being the gentleman that he is he doesn't take advantage of them.
So Lonnie's "hit list" is comprised of 3 main contestants...not including the lady known simply as "the one with no teeth". There is the 52 year old red head who, in my opinion, looks too high maintenance. Next is the 32 year old "native girl" who apparently "wants" him. She is quite the looker but a bit on the young side for our bachelor. When I said that she might give him a heart attack, Lonnie replied "many have tried". Whatever that means ;)
And then there is Ms. Greece. She has my vote (man I am really in the voting mode today :) Lonnie met Ms. Greece on a dating site and he feels this could be the one....of the five....
Lonnie is looking for someone: not too rich, not too poor. She has to be active and down to earth- from what I've heard Ms. Greece could be the one.
They talk on the phone often and Lonnie sent her "THE" email tonight. Wow he actually knows how to lay on the sugar...he read me what he wrote. After mentioning his hopes for a successful relationship he ends by saying that if nothing else they have started a new friendship.
I'll end this romantic themed post with one of my new favorite quotes:\
"I might never find that special someone, but I'm never going to give up" - Lonnie Jackson
Go get her Lonnie!
Pretty much what I get to see all day!

Yay for Me!!!
OK...so I have actually been to camp two days in a row to eat and haven't left with a pocket full of chocolate bars or a load of root beer. Yippee!
Lonnie is back and I can honestly say that I missed him. And I am really missing our mechanic Keith....because my normally cushy job has been replaced with long days of repairing, transporting and refuelling equipment.
Drove on my first ice road this week....well actually the roads are all ice-like but this one is actually made of ice. Maybe I'll end up on Ice Road Truckers.
Saw a fox today and it wasn't shy at all (although he did look a bit crazy)
I actually thought this blog was going to be fun to write....but honestly, in the middle of nowhere nothing happens. So sorry for the lack of excitement.
I have started to skip dinner cause, seriously, I have had the feeling that my stomache is full for more than 2 weeks. I actually skipped prime rib tonight.....just ate some fruit. So I will treat myself to steak night on Saturday nights...but just eat fruit the rest of the week. The problem with that plan is that lunch is just as good as dinner around here.
Might just start beginning each post with Dear Callie....cause I'm pretty sure you're the only one who's reading this.
So...New Year's in the middle of nowhere this year....AND only 92 days until I see my boys again.
Good night from the wilderness

Bah! Humbug!
Yeah that's just me feeling sorry for myself.....plus I'm watching Nottinghill and it's the part where Hugh Grant goes up to Julia's hotel room and Alec Baldwin is there....and Hugh says good-bye.....
Spent 3 hours tonight talking about politics and religion with 3 of the 6 people up here in this ghost town.
The youngest in that group is the most opinionated and thinks he knows everything about everything....so there were a few tense moments.
Made friends with a good guy named Conrad who is the medic....he is fun and has a great sense of humor. Conversation touched on religion and the purpose of life....and that was a nice unexpected missionary moment.
Most of the camp will be back in a few days....I get to eat turkey dinner later today...so Christmas won't be a total loss.
Already Christmas Day evening in Korea....called and talked with Jaiden who got a huge Lego set....
Jordan was released from the hospital Christmas Day and is sleeping....so I'll call him later.
So pretty much the crummiest Christmas ever for our family....but next year will be much better for sure.
Although I tried my best over the years..the boys confronted me a while back with the fact that they know I am Santa Clause.....seriously a sad moment for me...cause I went to extreme lengths to keep up the facade.
At the same time I was relieved because I have always felt that so much time (and money) is spent on Chritmas presents and such.
Although not one of the more commonly used scriptures at Christmas time this one came to mind:
7For the things which some men esteem to be of great worth, both to the body and soul, others set at naught and trample under their feet. Yea, even the very God of Israel do men trample under their feet; I say, trample under their feet but I would speak in other words—they set him at naught, and hearken not to the voice of his counsels.
I guess the point is: That amidst the presents, money, food and other treats we enjoy at Christmas time -we shouldn't set at naught HE whose birth we should be celebrating and should renew our commitment to hearken to and serve him.
Once again: Have a safe and Merry Christmas! Or Happy Holidays!

Oh the boredom!!!!
Ok...after a week up in camp, which usually has a population of 100 max, I now live in a ghost town. You see.. the oil rigs are shut down for a week during Christmas and initially I would have had to go back to civilization and spend some serious green to spend a lonely Christmas at a hotel. BUT they needed someone to stay up here and so now I get to spend a lonely Christmas right here.
There are about 4 people scattered around camp and then there is me...about a mile away, in my trailer....OH LONNIE...How could you leave me?
I'm not totally alone...there is a cute coyote who is still too shy to come close to the yard. There are also a few ravens = really huge crows that eat anything.... so I have to watch my back.
I followed Lonnie into the closest city (Slave Lake) yesterday, where I did some banking and shopping but had to find my way back here in the dark for 3 hours...that was a challenge.
And now here I sit watching Bride Wars....getting in touch with my feminine side while the tough guys are all away.
Missing my boys....wondering how they will have a Merry Christmas without me...and malfunctioning MSN messenger isn't helping.
Hope everyone who reads this has a safe and Merry Christmas.....
More to come later

Someone Help My Poor Skin!!!
OK...one of the things I've had to adapt to has been the change in the air. Yeah, it's cold but man it's also dry. My skin constantly itches...mostly my arms and legs.
I am constantly applying Aveeno Lotion but to no avail.....still itches. Just wondering if anyone has any recommendations???
I'd ask Lonnie but he is constantly rubbing his back up and down the door frame....guess he needs some help too...as long as he doesn't ask me.
Stopped snowing....just in time for the eclipse scheduled for later tonight.
I've got a bunch more to tell but gonna write a bit later....some of it involves Lonnie's love life.
Stay tuned!

Explanation
Well, now that I've advertised it I guess I'd better deliver.
I was offered the chance to help out a friend who is involved in the Oil and Gas industry in the wilds of Northern Canada.
Now, you need to know something....NOTHING and I mean NOTHING is going to seperate me and my two boys (other than their missions). UNLESS it's a call to help out a friend and make really big bucks while eating 5 star gourmet food (all you can eat).
So, now you know where I am.
Just getting here was an adventure- driving through blizzards on bush roads.
Once here I was introduced to Lonnie. He is a really sweet recovering addict.... recovered I hope since he is my loader operator. It's weird to be giving him orders since he's almost 60.
Like I said he's a sweet old guy who is not affraid to throw down the F-Bomb. He volunteer counsels recovering addicts and I kid you not he looks a bit and sounds exactly like President Boyd K Packer of the twelve. We share a trailer here in the "yard" which is a 200x300 foot cleared area that they put me in charge of. Our trailer is quite deluxe: we both have our own unit which consists of a kitchen/living room, 2 TVs (like I don't have enough trouble watching 1) huge bed and private bathroom. He gave me the unit with the jacuzzi tub....but he has good internet connection while mine is low- very low....so not sure who got the better end of that deal.
There is a camp up the road where most of the other people stay (sharing 4 bathrooms...yikes)...
That is also where we drive 2 minutes to eat our meals....example of meals include: Chicken cacciatore, Beef stroganoff, Steak and king crab's legs....it's like that every day. I skipped dinner last night and breakfast today because I can feel myself getting bigger every meal....the lady just heaps it on higher and higher. And I thought I would be going on a diet here.....wish me luck. Plus all you can eat pastries and chocolate bars.....and my favorite- Root Beer.
So the conditions inside my trailer and my tummy are ideal...but outside it's a different story. Snows pretty much 20 hours a day, sunlight from 9 until 3ish. the temperature averages - 13' C....Fahrenheit = COLD.
I will be here until sometime in March....
No family
No Temple
No Church -just found out today I need another elder in order to bless sacrament....guess I'll need to baptize Lonnie....he already said " Not today".
Not sure if this will lead into something permanent here in Canada or the States...but I'm getting a bit tired of Korea and the boys want to come back this way.....so I guess we'll see.
I'm sure I'll have lots of fun stories so check back once in a while.

WTH?
OK. Never wrote a blog before, and only read like one or two other people's blogs.
The main reason I'm writing this is to feel more connected to civilization, and if you want to know what that's all about stay tuned....
